The Improved Cookstove (ICS) is a ceramic stove (mixture of clay and charred rice husk) and a metal shell.
The stove is locally produced in Laos using local easily-available materials. The quality and efficiency of the cookstoves is lab-tested based on strict protocols and research is carried out to optimise design. Each unit is designed to last several years in contrast to previous models which only last a few months.
The stove is produced as part of the Improved Cookstoves Programme (ICS), which is implemented by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, Oxfam and ARMI, and funded by European Union (EU) SWITCH-Asia Programme
